Freestyle puppet theatre with bizarre poetry
Like an artistic one-man army, Sofie Krog conceives, creates and performs her animation theatre with shows crackling with crazy, unschooled creativity. Anything is possible in the Sofie Krog Teater, where the puppets roll their eyes and theatre reveals its mysterious inner life.
Sofie Krog
Born in 1977. Self-taught actor, puppet maker, and puppeteer. She has also worked as puppeteer in such films as Strings (DK), Jesus’ Blood & Red Currants (EE), It’s Some Kind of Voodoo (IE) and The Magic Book (IS). In 2003, she established her solo company, the Sofie Krog Teater. At the moment, she is based in Spain.
Artistic profile
Sofie Krog’s passionate relationship with animation theatre began with a spicy love affair with the puppet Senor Gomez, who seduced her into the magical world of puppet theatre. With an exquisite sense of the important details, Sofie Krog creates her own puppets with a huge panoply of physical movement from rotating eyes to moveable eyebrows, wiggling ears, and more.
The Sofie Krog Teater broke through on the international stage with the award-winning show Diva, in which she, hidden in the depths of a red velour rotunda, creates true theatre magic on seven small stages. As an artistic one-man army, Sofie Krog is the driving force of the company in which she conceives the ideas, builds the puppets and stage props, and plays all the roles.
The performances grow out of a fresh, unconventional and creative energy in which anything is possible. With the nutty combination of freestyle puppet theatre and bizarre poetry, the performances surprise again and again. Liberatingly unschooled and crazy.

Diva
(2004)
Diva is an almost wordless performance in a rotating animation theatre. A beautiful diva prepares for the evening show; while, deep in the mysterious bowels of theatre, an evil professor has dastardly plans for the evening’s proceedings. Behind an inferno of seven stages and 21 curtains, everything can be moved, opened, closed, hoisted and lowered. Small light systems, music, sound effects, cartoon comedy and amazing dexterity create high drama in a unique, magical universe.
Max. audience: 80-100

Review extracts
“It’s unbelievable that everything is moved, acted and coordinated by Sofie Krog. During the applause for the performance Diva, the audience looks curiously to see if she has more than two arms. It seems impossible for one person to do so many scenes so fast and even more impossible for many puppets to come alive at the same time – with only one pair of hands!”
El Norte De Castilla (ES), Diva
”The piece is a nutty combination of freestyle puppet theater and bizarre poetry that always surprises. The story’s characters might be any type of puppet or animated object. The diva is a sophisticated mask with dramatic, tremulous eyelids. The professor is a rubber-faced head on four-wheels, and the butler is a white glove. The performance is almost wordless, but the few lines spoken are in English.”
