HMF Brændende Kærlighed

Wordless and Absurd Street Comedy

Brændende Kærlighed [Burning Love] is street theatre that tells touching stories.  Without words but with a formidable and rigorous body language that is entertaining to children and adults alike.  Their dead-on situational comedy and wacky humour transform familiar squares, streets or parks into theatre.

The theatre’s style is humorous and physical with lots of poetry and slapstick. Every expression is magnified, extending the moment, and everyone chuckles with laughter.  The stories are always newly-written, and the performances are clearly inspired by silent movies, clowning and commedia dell’ arte. Inspiration that is seen in the figure drawings and visual effects.

The artistic goal is to create art without being elitist – and to be accessible without being run of the mill.

Current productions
The performances all have a cohesive storyline and last approximately 1 hour.

Bitter Lemon
(2006)
Since antiquity, the battle between the sexes has been catnip for theatre.  With Bitter Lemon, the theatre tosses this ancient but still very relevant gender struggle up into the air and turns it on its head. With no respect whatsoever for equal opportunity, nitpicking democracy, or the force of gravity. An entrancing and sassy comedy, told in the theatre’s special wordless, humorous and poetic style.

Vita min Vita / Vita My Vita
(2005)
The tragedy that refused to turn up.  A fantastic story about Vita, the world’s unluckiest woman.  Throughout her life, from cradle to grave, whatever happens to her is the worst thing imaginable – and more besides!  But, again and again, Vita’s indefatigable moxy and indomitable appetite for life turns sorrow into joy.  A tearful melodrama, told with wordless comedy and physical theatre.  Street theatre for everyone, regardless of age, origin or language.

Kaliber ad Lib / Calibre ad Lib
(2004)
A little hunting party ventures bravely out into the wild with their newly polished rifles, full hip flasks, and picnic baskets.  Soon, they learn that hunting and being hunted are two sides of the same coin.  It is easy to get reckless with a newly polished rifle in your hands … And a single moment can change everything.  A splendid street theatre experience that, with few words, blends comedy, music and goofy gags that appeal to everyone, regardless of age, origin or language.

Review Extracts

”There are lots of  guffaws, funny walks, staged fights, incitements to love, and moving sorrowful moments in the best silent movie style, sumptuously produced in painstaking detail.”
Jyllands-Posten (DK), Vita min Vita

“This is a very physical performance with a good ensemble interplay and total audience interaction.”
Hallandsposten (SE), Kaliber ad Lib

Quote

”Street theatre is a simple, unpretentious theatre form that, with minimal staging requirements, makes it possible to do theatre where there otherwise would be no theatre.  For an audience that normally does not go to the theatre.  This is theatre at eye-level.  We believe there is a need for us in these times, where the chasm between those who “consume” culture and those who never do is getting larger.”
